History
This is a short history of how a Secular Franciscan, now a Franciscan friar, came to make information about Francis, Clare and Franciscans available on a Franciscan Wiki.
American University
I worked in the computer center at the American University in Washington, D.C., for about nine years. During that time, I began to make information on Franciscans available via a gopher server. When the World-wide Web became more prevalent, I moved this information to a web server. It was, as far as I know, the first Franciscan web server on the Internet. After I left AU to become a friar, AU asked me to move the information off their server.
Washington Theologic Union
This was before I had my own web site and I searched around for another place to host this information. The Washington Theological Union agreed to host the information and has been doing so for the last nine years. Unfortunately, due to time constraints and an active ministry, some of this information has become out of date. People have sent me updates and some I have incorported into the site. Many, though, were not added to the site, simply because I lacked the time to do so.
And now, the Wiki
So, now, we are in the 21st century. Now, thanks to Wiki, people can update the information on their own. No longer are these types of sites limited by the amount of free time the owner has. Now, if information needs to be changed, those who know the facts can make the changes. And thus is born www.FranciscanWeb.com, the Franciscan Wiki.
